Overview
Strange Sounds from Beyond (SSFB) is a music festival that showcases emerging artists and experimental sounds beyond the mainstream. For this project, I created motion graphics that translate these “strange sounds” into immersive, fluid, and unexpected visuals on our website prototype.

Brand
The brand design was inspired by Chris Ashworth’s use of typography as structure. We kept the typeface consistent across platforms to maintain a cohesive identity, using blend modes to create a glitch aesthetic that reinforces the experimental, digital tone in the motion graphics.

Color scheme/ Typography
We used high-contrast colors to bring the visuals forward. ABC Gravity, a condensed Helvetica-style typeface, was paired with a PP Neue Montreal base to give the heading typography more presence.

motion graphics
The motion graphics build on the brand’s glitch concept, appearing in screen changes and button usability to signal user interactivity, while also acting as transitions between different pages of the website.

OUTCOME
The outcome of the project allowed me to work across different aspects of the branding as part of a team. Open communication and a shared understanding of the concept helped translate the brand consistently across the website, motion graphics, and mockups. I also developed my motion graphics skills in After Effects, learning how to better apply effects to support the overall brand.
